Five Principles That Will Change Your Current Situation!
In my last article, which began the #SuccessCode Series titled- “What Does it Take to Re-Write Your life-Story” [Missed It?- CLICK HERE], I promised FIVE principles that will help catalyze this change process irrespective of your profession, occupation or current situation in life:
Let’s start with the first two, here they are:
1. When you change the filter through which you look at things, the things you look at change.
Here’s an interesting story:
“There was this woman who was forever complaining about how her neighbour could not wash clothes clean. Her husband kept saying he didn’t see the clothes as being dirty but she never believed. It got so bad that she started to suspect some form of liaison between them. You can imagine how this single image must have coloured everything she feels about this poor woman.
Then one day, after a house spring-cleaning session, she started to see clean clothes on her neighbour’s lines. She wondered who advised her. But what really happened here”? She was cursing the poor woman based on her dirty window screens!
A ‘Paradigm’ is like that dirty screen. That’s pretty much like the screen through which we see the world and the interpretations we give to people’s actions and events around and about us. It’s the filter through which things appear to us and forms the foundation of our beliefs and values. These in turn arouse thoughts, feelings, words and subsequent inspired actions that follow.
When you start to introduce new perspectives into your value judgments, things suddenly start to look and feel differently. How about these?
John is always acting crazy….
Bella’s no good….
My boss is unfair as usual….
Her husband cannot do anything right….
Our baby girl is a scatter brain…..
How more unlucky can I get with people….
These eventually become self-fulfilling prophecies, won’t they?
Be the change you hope to see. Become conscious of that powerful but unspoken communication with self and do away with those negative ones not serving your highest good. Start seeing the world through the lens of new ideas and beliefs and you’d see new opportunities for elevated performances everywhere. You’ll start seeing old situations with a new perspective.
2. You are not your circumstances; your circumstances are you; when you change, your circumstances change.
Everyone wants to see more in their lives; more love, more joy, more wealth, more time, more energy, more success in every sense of it. One thing we however don’t reckon with is that we have come to where we are by the choices and actions we have taken up to this time. The mind is said to be productively activated only 10% of the time and 90% of our thoughts are repetitive.
When I started my journey to renewal, I was confronted with a profound statement by one of my coaches, a truly global figure in life transformation, when he made a declaration that, ‘spending just 30 minutes with me, he would confidently predict what my life would look like in 5 years’.
I quickly thought it was either a huge joke or that magic was part of his expertise. Now, many years and tons of knowledge and experience later, I can say the same with the same level of certainty! Put me to test on this and I will give you with a strong guarantee.
“What you believe, you see. Your actions are blossoms of your thoughts but joy and suffering are its fruits”.
This can’t be true for you unless you quit the “seeing is believing” group. No action can occur without first a thought of the same kind as energy follows focus. Remember, your current results are the outcomes of previous thoughts and the results of tomorrow will be the effects of today’s thinking.
What you think in your mind and feel in your heart, you become. Suffering is a result of wrong thoughts in some direction, ultimately. Conditions are created to create an environment that matches your thoughts. Here’s another story to fire your imagination:
“A guy has been working for the same company for years and knows the company better than anyone who works there. In fact he believes he knows it better than the owner does. He enjoys the variety of his work, however it seems as if he often gets work assigned to him because no one else wants it, and since he’s been with the company so long, he does know how to do just about everything there.
However, he just found out someone who’s been with the company for half as long just got promoted to a management position my man thought he was next in line for and feels far more qualified for. He can’t understand why he was passed over and is thinking of quitting.
What would you have done differently based on your new thinking?
Create your reality by the quality of your dreams, fired by congruent emotions and persistent efforts in the direction of its achievement? Don’t let your today hold tomorrow hostage. You cannot make it as a wandering generality; you must become a meaningful specific. You often get great results from doing different things or doing things differently.
We wrongly live by circumstances created by others instead of creating conditions that favour us, forgetting that the power to create is in us. I create my own reality and so should you. Be the change you hope to see and stop waiting for others to change. Doing otherwise means you’re surrendering your power, while deluding yourself that you’re the author of your own book. All you’ll do is end up blaming others for how your life has turned out. That’s a powerful shift in paradigm.
“The size of your success is determined by the size of your belief.”
Your wishes and prayers are only answered when they harmonize with your thoughts and actions. Many people still wonder why things remain the same in their lives in spite of how much effort they put into making things work. What they have however not figured out is that we function based on an operating system.
I was once on this road so I can relate to that. I used to be a perfectionist but I eventually realized that I was a master of the trivia on account of the quantum of my results with respect to effort levels. Now I know better. Don’t start your day till you’ve ended it – planned it…that is! Read at least 15 minutes daily for knowledge improvement.
“Defeat can only exist in the absence of a willingness to learn”.
